Toruk: A Magical Visual Production Worth Seeing

It is no secret that I am a lover of the aerial arts.

What is more of a secret is that I am deathly scared of clowns. And so, the mere mention of a circus usually sends me running for the hills. That wasn't the case when I first heard of Cirque Du Soleil's Toruk: The First Flight, though.

See, Toruk is based on James Cameron's movie 'Avatar' (the blue people, not the air benders) and so, the entire show is set in the beautiful fictional world of Pandora (read: no circus elements anywhere!)

The setup at the cocktail area in itself made me giddy!

'Avatar' also happens to be one of boyfie's favorite movies. He loves it so much, he once asked me if I would judge him if he bought a Jake Sully Hot Toys figure. :p

'Avatar' for the boyfie and aerial arts for me! Win-win!

I practically begged for tickets to see this - AND I REGRET NOTHING!!!

The minute we walked into MOA Arena and I saw the stage, I whipped out my phone to take a picture. I was in awe - and we hadn't even started yet.

You can also become part of the show Coldplay-style by downloading the Toruk app and keying in your seat number. Awesomesauce!

The minute it started, I knew it would be everything I had hoped it would be: beautiful, mesmerising, inspiring, unforgettable, and truly one-of-a-kind.

If I were on Pandora, I would definitely be part of this tribe!

Seeing this bit made me want to do aerial silks again.

You can watch a snippet of that scene here:

By the time we reached intermission, I was all but aching to head to the studio to train. But of course, I wanted to finish the show more, so I settled for doing a Man on the Moon in one of the cute pod chair things in the smoking area. :p

Julian's night was made, too, because we ran into one of his favorite actresses at the bacon dog place...

Cherie Gil! :p So easy to please, this one.

Toruk also had their own version of Chinese pole dancing.

This absolutely stunning sight in itself is already worth the time and money!

If you're looking for a full-on Cirque Du Soleil production, Toruk is not it. No, Toruk is something else entirely. It is a production that everyone, no matter the age, will be able to appreciate and love.

Sure, the majority of the show is in Na'Vi (the native language used in 'Avatar') and most people probably won't understand what's being said; but half of the fun for me was translating everything that was said in the show and having Julian wonder whether I could actually understand them or if I was just making everything up. :p

The storyline aside, it is an absolute wonder to see Pandora come to life in front of our eyes. While it just used to be a bunch of CGI on an IMAX screen, seeing that universe right in front of you is something else entirely. I would highly recommend catching a show this weakend before they head to Taipei for the next leg of their tour!

Tickets are available at smtickets.com! Don't miss out! :) You may also like Toruk's Facebook page for more updates and fun videos.
