Princess Dreams.

I was never a girly girl by heart... though I've always wanted to be.

After all, the girly girls were always the ones who won over the boys and they were never shoved around or cursed at, either. Not that I'm complaining. I love being one of the boys. But of course there are those moments where all a girl wants is to be treated like a princess and those moments where she wants to dress like one. :p

Granted, this outfit is more ballerina than princess, but you get my drift. These photos were taken by Gerd a while ago when the boys and I caught the Folded & Hung premiere of Iron Man 3 last month.

It's all fun and games until my true self emerges. :))

Movie Review: The Great Gatsby

It isn't very often that I fall deeply and desperately in love with a movie, but that is exactly what has happened with "The Great Gatbsy". In fact, I'd go so far as to give it 5 out 5 stars.

My love for "The Great Gatsby" began in my junior year of high school when Miss Cindy, my teacher in American Literature, assigned us to read it. There were only two of us who actually read the whole thing. I read it twice. #nerdalert

When we watched the movies in class (1974 and 2000 versions), though - the latter starring one of my favorite actors, Paul Rudd, no less - a lot was left to be desired. So, when I heard that Baz Luhrmann was taking it on as a movie... with Leonardo DiCaprio at the helm yet again (first time was in Romeo + Juliet)... I couldn't wait. And I am proud to say the wait was well worth it.

"The Great Gatbsy" is everything any Baz Luhrmann fan could have ever hoped for. In true Baz Luhrmann fashion, the direction goes exactly the way you would expect it. He also flawlessly combines the old with the new and uses unexpected yet brilliant songs all through out. I was a bit iffy about some of the song choices, but I cannot wait to watch this movie over and over and over again when it comes out on DVD.

"The Great Gatsby" consisted of a beautiful cast. Words cannot describe how perfect Carey Mulligan was for Daisy Buchanan. Although a lot of different actresses were considered for the role, I cannot imagine anyone more perfect than her. I'm still a bit sad that Ben Affleck had to drop out of the role of Tom Buchanan, but even Joel Edgerton fit his role to a tee. Also, even though I hate am not a fan of Tobey Maguire, even he couldn't bring me down.

Of course, the real star lies in Leonardo DiCaprio, who (you have to admit) is brilliant in every role he takes on - Gatsby included. The angry scene? My God. If I wasn't so stunnedly in awe, I would have applauded in the movie theater.

Looking back, I remember the papers that I had to write and the tests that I had to take for every few chapters of the book. How I wish I could go back and elaborate more on that green light and the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg now that I understand life a little better.

What I love the most about "The Great Gatsby", though, is how much I could relate to it when I was dealing with petty high school drama back when I first read it and how, now, a decade later, I can still relate to it on every level.

The world is still full of assholes. Most people still only care about themselves. You only really have a few real friends out there. The world is unjust. Love can be so, so blind. People should never be judged by what other people say or claim to know. And: you need to be careful when choosing who to give your heart to.

Watch the movie. Just watch it.
